Remember that photo of POPE JOHN PAUL II that the singer SINEAD O'CONNOR ripped up on "Saturday Night Live" a week ago? It's back together again, at the request of last Saturday's host, the actor JOE PESCI.

"Sinead O'Connor tore up a picture of the Pope and I thought that was wrong," Mr. Pesci said at the start of the show. He held up the patched-up photo, to the audience's applause.

The singer said she was protesting religious oppression. Mr. Pesci said that if it had been his show, "I would have gave her such a smack."

And of course by the word "smack", Mr. Pesci meant "whack".

And on that subject, surely I'm not the only one who's thought that our current Holy Father, Benedict XVI, looked like Joe Pesci when he was younger?
